It was so

"And it was so."
That sentence at the end of Genesis 1:9 resonated with me as I was reading Genesis 1 tonight.
God spoke the earth, the universe and everything in it into existence and it was so. He said it and it happened. Done.

Have you ever stood in front of something so majestic that you really understood just how finite you are? There is so much more out there... Around the world... Across the universe. We are truly just a minute piece of something so much bigger.

And it was so.

Think of the stars that stretch across the galaxy--so numerous that we can't even count them all.
Think of the all the sea creatures we have yet to discover because they live so deep.
Think of all the snowflakes that fall and how delicate their individual patterns appear under a microscope.

And it was so.

The details, the intricacies, the mysteries and the beauty--all simply breathed into existence.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." (Genesis 1:27, 31a)
And it was so...

Big lessons in small packages

Motherhood is hard. I can't tell you the number of nights I worry if I am doing enough, being enough, getting enough parenting answers right. I've always been one to want to get it right the first time. I don't particularly care to attempt something that I think I'll fail. I'm not much of a risk taker. Give me a planner and no uninterrupted plans and I'm a happy person. But kids don't work like that. Let's be really honest--life doesn't work like that. Kids are loud, chaotic, curious, energetic and non-stop. They can't wait to experience everything and I'm nervous about experiencing anything. They soak up all the emotional, mental and physical energy I have during the day and then have the audacity to ask for more energy during the night for whatever reason. There is no day off, no holiday break, no weekends. I am fully responsible to feed, clothe, care for, nurture, teach and protect each one every. single. day. Anyone else feel a li...

Hem me in

Psalm 139:5 "You hem me in, behind and before," "Hem: turn under and sew the edge of (a piece of clothe or clothing) / surround and restrict the space of" (Google definition) You hem clothes instead of leaving them unfinished to keep the ends from unraveling. There is a restriction placed--a border-- to stop the fabric from coming apart. Should that hem be removed, it is simply a matter of time before that piece of clothe will be completely undone. "You hem me in ..." He keeps us from unraveling. He places boundaries so that we do not become completely undone. What happens when we in our ignorance, step out from that hem? We unravel ourselves. We allow time, life, and the tears of life to rip us apart and leave us but a thread of what once was. Will those of us who have been unraveled remain nothing but loose ends of thread? I suppose it depends on each of us. Will you allow Him to restitch the fabric of your life back together again? Allow H...

Don’t Render Yourself Worthless

“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” ‭‭James‬ ‭ 1:26 ‬ ‭NIV‬‬ http://bible.com/111/jas.1.26.niv We are to be ambassadors of Christ—representatives and reflections. Yet, how can we accurately depict Jesus when our tongues are so quick to burn, cut down and destroy others? James 1:26 says our efforts are worthLESS if we do not know how to control our tongues. One misspoken word... one harsh insult...one passive aggressive expression might be all it takes to uproot a seed that had been previously planted. Tread lightly with those fingers so quick to text back a snarky reply or release a rant on social media. Your words could be the last drop in someone else’s already too broken bucket. “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,” ‭‭James‬ ‭ 1:19 ‬ ‭NIV‬‬ http://bible.com/111/jas.1...
